its google all the way!
What do you do when you want to find information about your topic for a high school project? You go to google and search for your interested field and get thousands of web pages containing the information that you needed. Well, thats what we have been doing for all these years and that was for what Google was designed to be. But now things are different with Google as well as on the internet. Now Google offers truck loads of services and all of them are feature rich and highly competitive with other services. So, now these days, the most of my bandwidth goes to Google usage and I have no regrets about it, they have such world class web services that people will no doubt use google.
As I said, its been Google all the way for me. Apart from the usual Google services like searching for web pages, images and video I have found other google services helpful as well.
- Gmail: Gmail provides me with mail access and with a clean interface I think google’s Gmail has proven to be the best email service provider on the internet. Moreover, unlike other popular internet service providers, Gmail gives you POP and SMTP access and now also offers IMAP access which no other service providers like Yahoo or MSN provide. So, thats a first for google as well.
- Maps: I was applying for various universities in the united states and therefore had to do a lot of research for various places and Google Maps was the service that came to my rescue. What sets apart is the Find business feature of Google maps which lets you find the best of the services all over the world. Moreover, google constantly upgrades its map technology and they recently implemented the Street View which I think is fantastic because it gives almost real time view of the city in 3D.
- Picasa web Albums: Picasa web album is one of the most feature rich web album service that I have come across so far. It allows you to upload photos as well as share photos or keep it private from others. Picasa web album is a part of the Google Pack software essential package which is free of charge. - Calender: Google Calender is also a very essential tool if you prefer keeping your organizer online and on a trusted network of servers being that of Google. Just like every other calender service available over the internet, the most distictive service is the Mobile alerts where in Google sends an reminder to you via an SMS before an event occurs. All this and yet free. Thats why its Google;)
- Documents: Google allows its users to upload documents online as well as allows them to download documents as well as edit the documents online. Moreover, apart from word documents you can upload and edit power point presentations as well as spreadsheets. You can import several types of filetypes like HTML files, .txt files,.DOC files as well as Open Office(.ODT) file types. You can also convert MS-Word (.DOC) files into .PDF files without the need of a PDF creator. You can read about it here.
Thus, for a normal user who uses internet purely for its utility purpose the above Google services are the way to go. In the next article I will discuss how google is helpful for Business solutions from Small Businesses to Enterprises.
